Subject: You never know who's actually Out There...

So many people read and write on various fanfic boards and in myriad fanfic communities, from MBs to LJs and personal sites.

But I read something in the newspaper here (in the UK) which surprised me to no end. During an interview prompted by the imminent release of her latest book, The Lollipop Shoes, author Joanne Harris (whose name you may recognise from Chocolat, among other successful novels) "confesses, weirdly, that last night she was writing anonymous fan fic on someone else's fanfiction website."**

Needless to say, I have no idea when that "last night" was (from the article, it was clearly recently), nor which fandom or website it might have been, but I thought it was really interesting that a successful author engages in the fanfic community anonymously...actually, I think it's kind of cool. ;-D

** Credit where credit's due: the above quote is from an interview by Kate Muir of the author Joanne Harris, published in the (UK) Times, Books section, Saturday, April 28th, 2007.
