Subject: I'm not much of an AU writer...
In reply to: JayBee 's message, "I don't have a lot of evidence, but I suspect (r)" on Thursday, July 13, 05:20:59pm

but I'm willing to share my (meager) thoughts.

I've written 2 (I think) AUs. One for the original BTC that was medieval and one (Civil War era) that was for Jaron. So I guess my first point would be for me that I write AUs for special occasions, not for my regular fanfic writing.

Secondly, I've tried writing AUs simply because I'm hoping (if I EVER get off my butt!!!) to try my hand at historical/romance fiction. Playing with Michael and Nikita in an alternative setting is an easy way to practice. (Given my perferred timeperiods, I'm really struggling with the 'gadzookery' issue of using period language without throwing the reader off)

Thirdly I chose those periods because I like them. I can't imagine trying to write an AU in a time period that doesn't attract me. But that ties directly to my history-geekiness... I can't imagine trying to write a futuristic sci-fi M/N for example, because that doesn't interest me.

(yes I'm selfish. *g*)
