Elena's marriage to her was real. She got a life of marriage and child with a man she loved. For Michael it may have started as a mission but Adam made it a real marriage. And if he died on a mission I am sure that Section would have organised a huge 'insurance ' payout.
His other wife, his section wife, Simone. She thought that Micahel was a great man but he really wasn't. It just felt good to be with another in the same circumstances as him. Both stuck in Section. Both dying at any time. Both lonely and afraid. Not great, just good for each other.
Now Nikita. None better than their love. She gave up her freedom and had to stay in Section aso that Michael could be with his son from another woman, the false marriage that became real.
Mr Wolfe and Madeline. The spouses of the 'dead' can do anything they want. The truly dead don't know.
As for Birkoff, maybe we shouyld count Jason a salmost married to Naomi. That would have been a Section marriage for her and a real marriage for him?
