You pose the following as alternatives:

"I tricked you so I could bring down your father, a terrible criminal whom you didn't know anyway"

versus

"I seduced you, married you, invited you to love me, claimed to love you, fathered your child, and lied to you about who I am and who I loved, and either directly or indirectly promised you fidelty that I never meant to keep."

I see that as somewhat misleading. The first statement describes his motivation, and it applies whether or not he was unfaithful. The second statement describes his *actions*. And thus, for me, the real difference is:

If Michael had been unfaithful: "I seduced you, married you, invited you to love me, claimed to love you, fathered your child, and lied to you about who I am and who I loved, and either directly or indirectly promised you fidelty that I never meant to keep."

versus

If Michael had been faithful: "I seduced you, married you, invited you to love me, claimed to love you, fathered your child, and lied to you about who I am and who I loved."

I'd say most of the "hurt" to Elena would come from the actions included in *both* options, and that the addition of the lack of fidelity doesn't add *that* much to the wound.
