because as the excellent salvage work of Ranma and the wonderful people who've been helping her has demonstrated - there was actually some very early (in the scale of LFN fanfic production) m/m featuring Michael - and I can't remember *any* howls of outrage about it. Actually, I think it was pretty well recieved - if not hugely popular. Rather like TR stories.... ;-)

A lot of the worst fights were also not really in the fanfic part of the fandom, per se, and even those, when they happened, tended to be spill over from the more general fannish meltdowns. Or, at least, that's the way I remember them now.

Some of the other, more specifically fanficish spats - about concrit, for example - well, a lot of those people *are* still fanish, if not still in LFN. So, um, yeah. Makes sense, but I'm not sure as an explanation it really holds up.
