How very true...it seems someone is always talking about sticking to canon and for me, the fun of fanfic is creating alternative storylines and endings. In the early day of LFN fanfic, writers felt free to deal with all kinds of backstories for the characters because TPTB hadn't told us much about the characters. I think the later fanfic writers felt compelled to stay with canon because it seemed to be expected by some commenters. I always adhered to what a friend and fellow fanfic author told me..."it's your story, write it however you want to...." I think that it is the various permutations that LFN fanfic has gone through that has kept me interested since I started watching LFN and reading LFN fanfic back in 1997. Thanks for your comments...;-)
