Subject: I've read six of these stories (r)

And being the contrarian that I am, went backwards through her archives page, so that means I've read the last six ones listed there.

I agree with those who say that her writing "feels" very "early" in the fandom. Of the stories I read, with one exception, her portrait of both Nikita *and* of Section was very light in mood. Definitely in character, but a lighter version than what I'm accustomed to now.

In a couple of cases, that lightness could be explained away by the fact that the author probably intended them as parody ("The Lost Scenes" and "Christmas Past"). But the tone persisted even in stories that seemed to be non-humorous.

The exception, of the ones I read, would be "Peace." There, there was more of a balance between lightness and sadness/regret -- and I suppose it is probably a reflection of my own status as a "later" fandom person that I found I responded the best to this one. It, of the six, came closest to capturing what I saw in the series and the characters. In fact, I think it captured it very well, and did so through a very nice mechanism with the book/library.

The pair of stories called "Kindred Spirits" and "Three Is A Crowd" left me a little baffled, and I'm assuming that these must be crossovers with something. They presented a scenario that we have seen in canon several times -- Nikita trying to find friends outside Section -- but, interestingly, did so without bringing up the issue of how Section would respond to the existence of these friendships. Rather, the focus seemed to be more on how Michael, *personally*, responded -- in his conversation with the male of the pair of friends, he doesn't seem to be worried about what Nikita might have said about him as an operative in Section, and whether this might have led to any sort of security breach (what if these people are Red Cell? They certainly don't seem like "ordinary" people to me, so I assume they have some ulterior motive in getting to know Nikita), but rather what she may have said about their romantic relationship. Assuming that these are crossovers, perhaps the reader is expected to bring preexisting knowledge of these characters and what their background might be in assessing their motives, but Michael wouldn't know who they were, and thus it seems odd to me that he reacts the way he does.

I'm not sure my reaction is very coherent, but in part that comes from the stories being somewhat different from each other.
