I'm one of those weird people who love reading shipfic of all kinds, but rarely read explicit NC-17 scenes. It's not out of prudishness, really, but it's just that... they bore me. *blush* I'm not sure why it happens - I know I'm *very* interested in the journey, the UST and the realisation and the journey twoards the inevitable, but after that I go all, "Okay, okay, next please." In fact, if it's too long, I will be thinking, "Get out of bed already!", all the while skimming through the scene.

What type of sex scenes do hold my attention? Character interaction. I'm a sucker for character interaction, and I'll rather read what the characters are thinking and saying (although I'll rather prefer the fic without the "oooooooooh"s and the "aaaaaaaaah"s) than a blow-by-blow description of what they're doing.

Bullet-proof kinks? Hmm. I'll make a list (please do the same, mmkay? *hopeful smile*).

1. Kissing. All kinds of kissing. Kissing is nice.

2. Characters arguing, shouting at each other. Hitting, even. (Fighting, if it's a pairing like Buffy/Faith) And then kissing.

3. Unrequited love. You know, where a character just *wants* and the other person is completely unaware/not willing to acknowledge? Of course, this has to be handled deftly otherwise it becomes boring angst. *yawn*

4. Snark, till the very end. Think - Snape/Lupin.

5. Pushing up against walls. This one gets me every.damn.time. And alleys. Sex in alleys. *facepalm*

6. Power games. Mmmmmm.

7. Non-communication. Stitled conversations. You know, the whole of LFN S2.

8. Hate sex.

That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there are more.

Squicks? I'm squicked by very little. But I'm annoyed by certain things, like the author playing coy, or writing romance-novel style (*very* few authors can manage to write like that and still hold my attention). Wrong character voices. Sudden declarations of love. I mean, here they were - *hating* each other (albeit lusting after each other), and all of a sudden they're declaring their undying love for each other? WTF? Long, passionate declarations of love (for characters who *are* in love). I really couldn't care less.
