Kathy bought a Trek 2100. I bought a Trek 2300 last fall when they went on end-of-season sale. The only difference is some of the components are a step up on mine. Make sure you buy it at a store that will take the time to fit you. If the only thing they ask you to do is stand over the frame and check clearance, move on. I think it took about an hour or so for me and close to 2 hours for Kathy. You should be able to find a very good bike for $1000. Other brands that I was considering are Cannondale, Felt, Lemond - there are plenty of other good bikes.
