In reply to: pjk 's message, "the bioneers" on 11/30/05 11:08:04pm

i have heard many of the 'bioneers' segments on public radio over the last many years and enjoy them a lot.

another good source for information along those lines is located in the obscure section of channels on your satellite dish: FSTV and LINKTV carry some dynamic programming [along with some not-so-dynamic]. some really great docu/infos pursuing science and culture and art and politics........

i have been interested in Industrial Hemp and last night there was a great piece on one of those channels. i watched some of it. some tidbits:

+the US is the only industrialized nation to outlaw its cultivation.

+ they can grow it with 0.0000000% THC [tho its more common for it to have about 4-8 parts per million i guess is something like 0.0005%

+ in colonial days it was a LAW that if you owned land you must grow Hemp

+ the trendy factoid: the first two drafts of the declaration were written on Hemp Paper

+ Hemp Flour is 40% protein!

+ Hemp Oil [which is the real cash crop of value in today's market] contains Such and Such properties that make it the only naturally occurring substance to contain {something like omega 3 -not that- but something of similar value to the human body...can't recall}

+ you can grow fibrous material -which is a BY-PRODUCT! of the oil industry that can be used for so many products {see Antler's Poem "Marijuana Saved My Life" about an ancestor being saved from drowning by a Hemp Rope} on A FRACTION OF THE LAND and in a FRACTION OF THE TIME that it takes to grow wood products

+ many petroleum-based plastics could be replaced or augmented with Hemp Fibers thus helping to solve the riddle of economic and cultural dependence on oil

+ our forefathers saw such value in Hemp production that there were slogans and broad agricultural encouragements to promote its cultivation

+ canada has a significant Industrial Hemp industry

the list goes on...gotta run
