Podcasts are just audio files posted on the web, kinda like a blog, but no text. Some professional, some amature. They are named somewhat after the ipod - I guess because people download the audio onto their ipod and listen away from the computer.

one site to look for, subscribe and listen to podcasts is:

http://podcasts.yahoo.com/

You may need a yahoo identity or login or whatever - it's free.

When you find a podcast you're interested in, there are two choices: listen or subscribe. My experience on my work laptop is that the "listen" option doesn't work so well - but it may be the security software installed on my computer. So I usually choose "subscribe". Once you have an account and subscribe, there is a link to at the top of the page to "My Subscriptions". On that page is a list of your subscribed podcasts, with a column of "actions". I find the "download" to work better than the "listen" - it opens media player and starts playing the podcast.

Another way would be to load itunes on your pc if it's not already - this is the free software from apple from which you can listen to music or podcasts, as well as upload CDs, purchase music from the itunes store, subscribe to podcasts, load music/podcasts onto your ipod. What? well you gotta get one! Steve Jobs is counting on it.
