this was beautiful, no? You can see from the mock up the staircase running through the middle. From what I've read, the intent was to use people as imagery of the life blood of the shirt. I loved this piece and was very sad to see short sighted politicians put the axe to this. I really think that had the controversy over the blue shirt arisen at any different point in county politics - it would have gotten through. The problem is that the considerable retirement benefit designed by then county executive Tom Ahmet (?sp of last name) came to light and led to his recall. Blue shirt was considered just one more case of the county board voting to spend without information or consequence. Scott Walker - a Wauwatosan who ended up replacing Ahmet - led the blue shirt charge. Silly small minded man -

I was sad to see the shirt leave.

What the county offered to Oppenheim was to complete a different installation at the airport. "Submerged Vessels" is installed

The photo on the link does better justice (in my opinion) than the actual installation. The installation is in a walkway - awkwardly lit, awkwardly positioned in a corner (as you can see from the photo, you can only view the piece from one side). In addition the 3 times I've been to the airport and passed by the piece - it was surrounded by a yellow police tape barricade.

Not an installation I enjoy, but maybe that's sour grapes talking.
