What are some of the established preventions (besides the exercise you mentioned) for spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease?

What are your thoughts then on Medicare paying for counseling to help older smokers stop smoking, or Congress expanding Medicare coverage to offer medical nutrition therapy as a strategy for disease prevention and management (designating obesity as a disease)

What about constraints of destiny compromising free will…e.g. single mom’s working 40 hour weeks raising 3 kids…not enough income to join a gym, neighborhoods not safe enough to exercise at night…not enough time….here exercise is almost a luxury item. The company that provides an in house gym is obviously much more compassionate than the one who fires smokers. Does the research show financial gains (health care savings) for companies providing in house health services?

I was also thinking recently about cancer being designated as the number one killer in the U.S. today... and weren't over 50% of cancer cases in this last year difficult to screen for?(unlike breast, colon, etc cancers) What about the 240 carcinogens or so linked to cancer such as sunlight, any form of alcohol, female hormones and many others which are very difficult to avoid such as household and workplace toxins...even lifesaving medications. My point here is that the number one health risk in the U.S. is so the intricate how do we possibly draw the line here delineating public responsibility?

>Still, don't you have some say in how I make health
>care decisions for Danny (and how I prevent him from
>having to use the system) since you all support that
>system through tax monies?

If you were making extremely poor choices regarding Danny as a friend I would offer my perspective….I would offer help in some way. If you were just a stranger, I would hope that the agencies administering services would be compassionate and assist by educating you (in the same way Medicare is making attempts to educate smokers)…a Hobbsian perspective; working towards ameliorating peoples difficulties.
