Heard this morning...

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4524673

Interesting to me his thoughts on showcasing natural phenomena with his work...

Skied the birkie weekend before last (www.birkie.com). It was a great experience - a real international event. The Italians won again this year - and don't look to me to change that. I was probably too conservative from a race viewpoint (I finished at 4:33), but it was my first long ski race, and I really didn't want to get to 40K and have nothing left. I don't think starting in the 10th wave helped either - the first 10K your dealing with a lot of slowdowns and other assorted clowns and the snow gets softer later in the day. I'm guessing I'll be in the 6th wave next year. I don't have big aspirations anyway - maybe get closer to 4 hours, improve my technique. It's a very beautiful trail, so I don't want to ruin it worrying about hammering it the whole way. It's also way hillier than any other course I've skied.

One surprise I had was just before the halfway point you cross OO, and there is a food stop. This guy is ringing a cowbell and saying way to go George... it was my brother-in-law Bob Medo (Kathy's sister Karen's husband). Kathy and Karen were just up the trail cheering with a poster of me from the Noque 25K I skied earlier in the season. (http://www.printroom.com/ViewFoundPhotos.asp?userid=andygregg&group_id=0&stype=0&sword=2727) They had stayed in Waupaca and driven up that morning unbeknownst to me. They met me at the finish, we hung out for 20 minutes or so, and they took off (had to get back to the kids). It was a very cool surprise - I wanted them to stay longer, but I think it was the combination of the drive back and not wanting to force my plans (not that it would have mattered).
