As several of the articles tjm has posted have been from Tech Central I feel it would be helpful to other readers on Voy to have some background on the website.

The following is from disinfopedia:

History

Started in 2000 by James K. Glassman, TCS is published and funded by Republican lobbying firm DCI Group and its clients.

During the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, Kendra Okonski wrote an article for the TechCentralStation web site, stating that "Africans are sacrificed on the altar of trendy green delusions."

Okonski works as co-ordinator for the London-based IPN and as the press contact for the SDN. She formerly worked with the Washington-based Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI). [1]

Paul Georgia writes on climate change issues, but gets basic physics wrong, indicating that either Tech Central Station's editors do not know basic science or that they do not review submitted pieces.

Here's a little background on DCI from disinfopedia:
DCI Group

The DCI Group is top Republican lobby and PR firm associated with direct mail and telemarketing company Feather Larson & Synhorst DCI. The DCI group publishes the website Tech Central Station. DCI specializes in setting up corporate-funded fake grassroots or astroturf organizations to support its client's interests. The group is closely connected to the Bush White House.

History

In 2002, DCI received $340,000 for eight months of work for the Union of Myanmar (Burma) State Peace & Development Council. The Washington Post's Al Kamen wrote, "DCI's filings with the Justice Department offer an unusual glimpse into the efforts by the Rangoon junta. DCI lobbyists, featuring Charles Francis, a longtime family friend of the Bushes, ran a sophisticated campaign to improve the regime's image -- and steer the conversation away from its rampant human rights abuses and such.

"Francis, a prominent Republican, even set up two meetings with White House National Security Council Southeast Asia director Karen B. Brooks -- an unusual feat given that Burma is under U.S. sanctions and its top officials are barred from coming here -- to tout Burma's cooperation on anti-drug, HIV/AIDs and anti-terrorism efforts and in finding the remains of U.S. soldiers from World War II." After lobbying congressional officials, the Defense Department, and well connected think tank members, the "campaign was on the verge of success -- the State Department was about to certify the regime -- but the administration backed off amid pressure from the Hill, human rights groups and the media," Kamen wrote.

In September 2004, The Hill reported that DCI "is offering healthcare consultants $3,750 plus expenses over six weeks to generate positive news stories about the drug card and offer support to Congress for voting for the Medicare drug law." The new Medicare drug law had been controversial since Republican legislators had violated normal voting procedure in order to have the bill barely pass Congress.[1]

An "e-mail sent from the DCI Group’s Starlee Rhoades to healthcare consultants says that the [Medicare] campaign will run from Sept. 15 to Oct. 31 and that the client is RetireSafe, which has sponsored the hiring of healthcare consultants." RetireSafe is a project of the Council for Government Reform. The RetireSafe "Medicare Extension Campaign," as carried out by DCI, asks seniors, their families and healthcare workers "to send letters to their congressman and senators thanking them for supporting the Medicare benefit, or asking for that support in the future. We have help available to write letters if the signer is not comfortable drafting the letter entirely on their own."[2]
