this is not what you want to hear, but my vote?

given the LIMITED info that i have from you:

buy him a new costume. why not? you don't coddle him as a general rule and it's not the issue of money and you aren't going to ruin him for life.

spoil him a little [if that's what it feels like] and indulge his vulnerable state....unless of course this has been a pattern of behavior, which i don't think is the case.

sometimes we try out something that in the end was not as successful as we thought it would be ie: he wanted to make the 'silver platter' and then realized after the fact it was not what he wanted.

i would not look at it as a defeat as a parent or his defeat in not accepting what he has in hand.

that being said: maybe you will be able to turn it around as geo's post indicates and in the end he will actually like it alOt, better than the store bought variety.

nothing i say is anything you haven't already thought but there it is anyway. easy for me to say from here.

two sides :

one** teaching the value of persistence, acceptance and depth of character

two** tending to the needs of a growing spirit's vulnerability and caprice
