Bill Dowling here. I lived in Damwood Road from 1947 to 1962. I went to Stocktonwood Road, then Stapleton Avenue. Left there 1954. I worked at the Metal Box for 52 years. At the moment I am in Australia on holidays but live in Hunts Cross. I remember Dam Woods, Oglet Shore, the fairs at the bottom of Western Avenue, The Bluebell Woods, The Old Hutte, The Table Bridge. The memories are great. If anyone remembers me it would be nice to hear from you. I recognise a lot of names on here. Peter Crompton, Tom Ryder, Brian Reynolds etc etc. Love the site, thanks, Bill.

Hello Bill....I remember you very well because when I first joined Stocktonwood Road school at the age of 7 years old the teacher (Miss Thomas) placed me in your charge.

Her instruction to you was to look after me and show me about the school and take care of me in general. You did all of those things and it always stuck in my mind that one day I would be able to thank you.......I guess that day has arrived after all of these years.....THANK YOU BILL.

There is nothing like the feeling of joining a new school on your first day. It is one of the lonliest days of your life and the hours stretch like days, or so it seems. You made my first day at school an enjoyable experience.

Lovely to hear from you after all these years and to know that you are alive and kicking.

I put together this website just for the purpose of joining ex-school pals and mates and it seems to be doing the job.

All the very best Bill.

Hi Bill, good to see your message and hope you're enjoying your trip to Australia. When you return please make contact via email or telephone - Ray Davies has the number. Would love to meet and talk about the old days at Stocktonwood and Metal Box. Cheers. Brian

Thanks for you reply. Thanks also for the nice comments you made about me. I remember Stockton Wood Road school well. I seem to remember you had a younger brother and you lived in Stocktonwood Road. Brian Reynolds sent me a repy also. He sent me a picture from Metal Box, it brought back many more memories. I have just got back from Cairns and will soon be on our way up to the coast north of Brisbane. I remember many names from Stocky but too many to mention on here. Do you remember Eric Wrght, he died very young and is buried in Speke Church.
Once again, many thanks for your comments. We are in Australia till Sept.7. I hope to hear from you before then.
Cheers for now,
Bill.

reference to Bill Dowling's message where he mentions Eric Wright. I was with Eric when he died. We were on holiday in the Isle of Man with Ian Tomlinson and John Wainwright. We had been to a dance and when we returned to the hotel Eric took ill during the night. it transpired that it was a burst ulcer which poisoned his system and sadly he died there a few days later. it was a very traumatic time for us all and we were pall bearers at his funeral. we were all starting out on our first jobs after leaving school and I sometimes wonder how our lives would have turned out.

Hi Colin we were in the same class together at Stocktonwood school I remember you very well. What happened to Eric was so very sad. I remember him in the same class and he was always turned out well and a very quiet lad. Loved his football and I think he played for the school at one time and another. Quite by accident I came across his grave at AllSaints Church. I was visiting a family grave and happen to walk past his grave site. For the longest time I wondered if it was the same Eric Wright I attended school with. Sad to hear that it was.
