Subject: St Christopher's and All Hallows' girls school

I'm new to the site and thought I'd reminis about the schools I attended in Speke in the 60s and 70s. My teachers who stick out most in my mind were MISS BLEASE in St Chrissies infants.Horrible cruel women. Very handy with the Kane even though we were only 6 and 7 year olds. In the Juniours I had a lovely young teacher called Miss Gee. Not only kind but beautiful to my seven year old eyes. Then came Mr Harding I think his name was, he had a glass eye, a firm but fare teacher. Then unfortunately I was taught by Miss Calvert. I couldn't stand the women. She had her favourite few and I felt the rest of us were an inconvenience to her. The last year my class were told we had a Miss Coogan as our teacher and blow me when she walked in it was only Miss Calvert someone had actually married her. God I can still feel the upmost despair as I write. I passed my 11 plus so went to a school outside Speke for a couple of years, but was really unhappy there so I transferred to All Hallows' Girls School for my last couple of school years. I was blessed to have two great form teachers Mrs Belvisi a great socialist and inspirational teacher and the lovely Kind Miss Alexander. But I was lucky also to have a strong, no nonsense, fabulous Headmistress, Miss Mullen. Schools these days all need one of her. Any way I'll leave it there and I hope I've brought up some memories for those of you who attended those schools

Mr Howard was the teacher at St Christopher's that had the glass eye. Took the boys for football and cricket. He also had a choice of canes for punishments namely, little Johnny, big Johnny and Excalibur :-)
