Metlakatlans for a better Community -- Members for a better Community, 18:23:52 11/03/07 Sat
It is a sore spot if there are only a few privileged families who get jobs and contract with the Metlakatla Indian Community.
When the U.S. Congress gave this Islands to the Metlakatlans, Congress did not specify that only families with certain last names should get all the jobs and contracts. Yes, I do have a bad attitude when it come to the rights of all the Members of Metlakatla. The Metlakatla government system of nepotism, conflict of interest has got to stop, if this town is going to get out of the economic problems that it faces. Such as;

Highest Unemployment rate in the United States.
Continued Community Business failure.
Inability of our Court to handle local criminal and civil cases.

This problems can attribute to the appointment of unqualified family members, and friends to important jobs in Metlakatla.

Metlakatla has lost a lot of timber funds, fishing revenues, and if we continue, the loss of the profits from the Bingo hall. Which could lead to the loss of the bingo gaming completely.

Metlakatla does have the qualified members available, if we only open our eyes, and leave the nepotistic attitude behind and start hiring qualified Metlakatlans.

Our problems with the Conflict of Interest needs to be addressed. To many selfish endeavors of the Council only create dissention in Metlakatlans, and again put unqualified people in important positions in Metlakatla Indian Community. This beyond any thing else has led to the down fall of the economic base of Metlakatla Indian Community.

I guess I will have a bad attitude as long as those conditions exist.
