Keep in mind Marty that these are scientists. They don't believe in creationism and thus probably don't believe god gives us a soul. There are two completely different schools of thought here. Religon vs. Science. I don't think they should clone humans, I just don't think it's right to bring someone into this world like that. I don't base this on religous reasons either, just my own views.
On the subject of the no-soul cloned person essentially being an animal is wrong. You can't say that about animals not having a soul, that just doesn't sound right. I don't know, I think we say no to cloning for different reasons.

I don't think animals have souls, but I think a cloned human would have a soul. As I understand it, a cloned human would be a copy of another human, but not like exact enough to be that same person, just their genes, they might look alike but they would be two different people with two different souls. And this isn't to say that scientists can create souls, because the life of the human wouldn't come from science.

Mike.

So...The person who was cloned, had a soul and the copy of that same person would have a soul also? I think since the two have been created totally differently the copy of the person would be like a machine, in a sense that they are without a soul, kinda like those robotic pets, seemingly limited. hmm..not sure how to say this, it wouldnt be a complete copy, it would be created with the intention of science. Its different when a couple has twins, but making a clone out of a middle aged person, or someone who has already been born is hard to say whether or not they would have a soul...i wish i could provide more emphasis in my point i'm trying to make, but there really is no way to know...? Interesting topic though.

As I understand it, when you clone a middle-aged person, you pull from their DNA and create a fetus, so this person would grow up to be similar, but it would also grow-up with a whole new set of experiences and choices.
