Subject: I would pay money for...

So, if any of you have it in your capacity to program a program that would let someone input the author and publisher of an article and what type of article it is and output the list of crap in MLA-Style notation, complete with alphabetical order and all that jazz, I would pay you money for it. Formatting frustrates me.

Love,
Mike.

yeah, mike i could try to do that....but i would need to know what the mla format looks like. for example, send me something like this: (only in the right format and order)

author name, copyright, title, etc.

make sure to include any puncuation there needs to be or anything. don't get your hopes up, but i will try my best.

well, mike, it wasn't as hard as i had initially thought. i will post it on my website sometime tomorrow. there won't be a direct link to it, but i will give the address on the forum. and i would like to thank you mike, cause this has given me an excellent opportunity to improve my skills with something pratical. most things i have to write will never be used. (simillar to the stuff we wrote in high school. no practical value.) i hope that you can use it a lot, and i hope it works for you.

Now that I think about it a little, there is a writing program on a computer at my house that makes a bibliography for you. All you had to do was put the info in (author, title, etc.) and it spits out a bibliography, so it isn't exactly anything new.

Well, I'm all done with it. Thanks to mike rehani for stealing some of my joy in writing this program. Anyone is free to use it. There are directions on the page for use. Any questions or problems, please email me. yacste@bethel.edu
(note: you need a java-enabled browser to use it)

Steve, that sounds so awesome. I have no idea how to "enable JAVA" on my internet explorer, or even if it's possible but I'd really like to know how to if anyone has any ideas. I can't see the program right now. I don't know, is it possible to, like, email me a copy or something? Does it work that way?

Shame on Mike Rehani for stealing Steve's wind like that too.

Mike.

Hey Mike, here's how you can enable Java on Internet Explorer:
Go to "Tools" -> "Internet Options" Go to the "Advanced Tab" There should be a box you can check about half way down that says something about Java next to it. You might have to restart in order for it to work.
If this doesn't work, go to this website: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
click on the J2EE button on the right. That should allow you to download the Java app. so that you can view the bib. maker. You might have to enable it after you download it (see first option). I hope this helps you out in your quest.

The first option doesn't work and I downloaded the second thing (all 100 megs) and, to be honest, I have no idea how it works. So yeah, I really don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

[> umm...try this -- steven, 20:56:14 04/27/04 Tue

hey mike, are you using internet explorer, cause that would probably be the easiest. you just need to download the java plugin. try to go to the site where the program is (www.bethel.edu/~yacste/mlagui/mlaguimain.htm) and let it load. if you see a cup of coffee appear, then you know it's loading, otherwise it should give you the option of downloading a plugin. that's what you need to do. you should give me a call on my cell phone, or i can call you (if i had your number) an i can walk you through it. talk to you later.

Or I could just do it, I know how. Although I don't know why I'm bothering typing this instead of just turning around telling you...

Yeah, that'd be cool, considering you are somewhat of computer whiz, like that kid in the wheel chair who is part of the Burger King Kid's Club. I bet you two could be friends.

[> [> [> That kid does have a name... -- Marty, 16:41:56 04/28/04 Wed

I think you are combining two different characters. Wheels was the one in the wheelchair and he was all decked out in some kind of knight-like armor, probably to protect him while he did stunts. I think the smart kid's name was KidWhiz, yes one word, and he was always carrying around a graphing calculator. Ahhh, how I long to go back to those early days of politically correct advertising.

[> [> [> [> Thanks for clearing that up -- Mike Cypull, 18:34:50 04/28/04 Wed

Yeah, you're right Marty, I was combining two characters. But, in a way, Roberto embodies both of them.

[> the right name -- steven, 00:42:03 04/29/04 Thu

i am quite sure the actual name of that genius (not the one in the wheelchair, the graphing calculator one) was kidvid. or something like that. anyway...

[> [> Good Call -- Marty, 06:38:50 04/29/04 Thu

The more I think about it, that probably was the right name. What a stupid name. I thought KidWhiz was a lot cooler, but leave it to Burger King to be difficult. What the crap does Vid stand for anyway? Vid...eo? Or perhaps Vid is an Icelandic variation of the word "whiz".

[> [> [> I was bored so I did a little research... -- Marty, 06:47:50 04/29/04 Thu

Me being a total loser, I had to know who was who so I did a search on Google. Wheels was the wheelchair guy, Kid Vid was the hip, early 90's conformist skateboarder with all the crazy gear and IQ was the nerdy graphing calculator guy. This time was better spent than doing actual work though.

[> [> [> [> I'm glad you kid get away for awhile -- Mike Cypull, 06:56:42 04/29/04 Thu

The more I think about it, there's a little of everyone from the Burger King Kid's Club embodied in Roberto. That is, except for the black kid that plays basketball. I'm gonna call him "hoops." Roberto is not represented in that kid. I wonder what Roberto will think when he (inevitably) reads all this...

Oh, kudos to you Marty for the research.

Sorry, it's early in the morning when I type this stuff.
