I do not understand why everyone is making a big deal about it. In response to this quote by Dan Jabs concerning GS 301, I would like to clarify why it is that I am making a big deal out of GS 301. Let me take you through another step-by-step process of my thoughts
First: Don’t be deceived, we aren’t doing 60 hours of “community service,” we’re doing 60 of “Concordia service.” And don’t let anyone get away with calling it “volunteer work.” If it were volunteer work, would you please show or tell me where the volunteers are? Though it may sound harsh, you have to admit that “forced labor” is a more accurate term.
Second: I’m the typical poor college student. I’m paying $1000, out of my own pocket, to do 60 hours of forced labor for Concordia University. CUNE is getting 60 hours of PR time from every student that goes through GS 301. If you think about it, shouldn’t they be paying us?
Lastly: It’s downright degrading to me, to you, and to the men of old. A slave is “…a person forced to work for another for no pay.” All I can say is…we should be so lucky to be called slaves! After all, even slaves don’t have to pay their masters to do work. We shouldn’t have to either. Many men fought and died in this country to abolish slavery; I can only imagine how they must be turning in their graves to see the questionable ethics of GS 301 being accepted and promoted in a school of higher education.

This is what I got out of that post:
Tim, you were arrested and charged with something, probably overcharging wheat down there in NE (haha, a Nebraska joke, I bet you haven't heard those before). Your punishment is 60 hours community/Concordia service and a $1000 fine. Am I right?

GS 301 is a class where they FORCE you to do 60 hours of Community service...you need to take it to graduate.
and...it costs money

Tim that has got to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard of!!! Why would a chool do anything like that, I cannot comprehend it. It seriously boggles my mind. I won't write anymore about it. AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
