I think those that send their children to PRIVATE school, have one hell of a nerve to ask for transportation as well. To send ones child to private school makes a statement that, you don't have confidence in the public education in town and believe private school is better. You pay big bucks to send your child to private school, where the rest of us cannot afford to do so. You want to send your child to private school, you find a way to get them there. It is that persons choice to enroll their child in private school. Let their choice also include finding a way to get them there.

How many towns actually do bus public and private school students at the same time? Is there any figure on that? I don't mean places like Peabody, Newton, or Brookline where the average household income is higher than ours. I mean towns like Tyngsboro, Chelmsford, and Methuen--towns in our local sector.

There is no reason to give in to the parents that have children in private school, plain and simple. I don't care if they don't like that I feel that way. I send my children to public school, therefore I rely on the public transportation to get them there. If you go to private, you use private transportation. Let part of that 11k per year go towards the cost. Tell the private school that you are pulling out a few kids and, you can bet they will find a way to get them there. Money talks. They'll find a way to make sure that tuition keeps coming in.

Elderly and those without children pay the same amount of money in taxes as we do. The, "I pay taxes so I deserve it" theory just doesn't stick. Unless we start allowing those without children to start getting free bus rides to their destinations as well, we need to keep the determination of this cut as it is.

People are sending their kids for one main reason, and that is because they don't want their child in public school. That is the bottom line when you come down to it. They might be moaning and groaning right now but, when it comes down to it, you know they will find a way to get their child there.

Take five minutes out of your busy schedule and get your kid to school yourself. Sorry but, that's my opinion as a taxpayer and a parent with 5 children that go to our public school in Dracut. (And proud of it, too!)

Oh, and I am driving mine to school this year--and I pay taxes.
