I can't stand this being a CHRISTIAN thing. No, I am not Christian, but Agnostic. However, this is a public school issue concerning funds and the right to allocate them for such. Christianity has nothing to do with it.

That aside, I respect your opinion. However, I had considered running for the school committee a while back, and I did the math concerning this issue. I won't repeat figures because, they seem to be bouncing around here in all directions, depending on who is on what side. I can say this: Dennis knows what he is talking about. If you want to see accurate and detailed figures, Click Here.

If Dracut had a private school within the community, I have no issues with private school children being bused. However, we do not have one. Why isn't anyone screaming at the bus company themselves, for their rates concerning this issue? We have no control over what they charge, but once they leave the town of Dracut, costs go up. There lies one of the problems of bringing this to reality. Call the bus company and scream. Walk around with signs with big red letters on them, saying they are greedy. Do something at the ones that inflate the prices where we have no control thereof.

Another idea that could be circulated is that, St. Theresa's had a school at one time, and still has the facility to have one again. They have recently merged with St. Mary's in Tyngsboro and are now one parish. Why don't the parents that are paying for private school take this up with a local community church and ask for a reopening of a private school? The Catholic Church loves to have schools to bring in funds. Why not take this up with the parish in this vicinity, within our town limits? That would cut our costs for the busing, the children would still be bused to their local school, and Dracut would have a private school option as well.

No other town pays for this option, so neither should we. I am also sick of the 'image' debate coming up whenever we have to show some balls in this community. A vote was denied for a renegotiation on the Superintendant's contract because (one reason), it made us look bad. It doesn't matter that, we are laying off much-needed school personnel and pay a lady that sits at an administrative desk. After all, it makes us 'look bad'. Being broke looks even worse, but that is my opinion.

The School Committee outdid themselves on this issue. I applaud them. I hope they don't buckle and let their decision stand as it is. Now, THAT would look bad. ;)
