As part of a family history project, I've discovered that Dick Pemberton was my Great Uncle. I think this is the same Dick Pemberton that the room at Coundon Road was named.

I'm trying to find out what Dick did for the club and when. Can any body help, please?

My husband is no help, he only remembers the stars of the early sixties, Phil Judd, George Cole, Rickie Melville, to name but a few, but no Dick Pemberton.

Thanks a lot
Carol Moore

A bit before my time I'm afraid! All I know is that 'Dick' or HJ was a fly-half - and was classed as one of the best of his generation and captained the side in the twenties. He is also listed among about 50 other 'great' players in the club's 1974 official Centenary publication. That probably tells you something!
The same publication also carries three team pictures featuring HJ in the years 1911 (very youthful looking in this one!), 1919 and 1924. They are obviously fairly grainy repros, and quite small, but if they are of interest I could arrange to get them scanned in and mailed to you. Just let me know. The club may have the originals though, so that might be a better bet.

I've passed your email direct to John Wilkinson at the Coventry Evening Telegraph just in case he has any other leads. You may also wish to contact the club direct on office@coventryrugby.co.uk and I'm sure John Butler (who acts as archivist - but bear in mind that much of the club's early history was destroyed in the war)or someone else will be able to help.

Hope this is of some assistance.
