Dave,
I don't know you but I will say that yours is the first down and dirty posting I have seen on this forum relative to this event. Deep down and very dirty, which all this fundamentally is. I feel people are a bit quick to abstract this kind of event into "up" models of feeling and holding and global whatever, when in reality, at its fleshiest level, it is Rape, Murder, Unimaginably Brutal, crushing, Irrevocabaly Devastating, Anger and Rage Filled, Completely Dehumanizing and leaves us in our most naked, raw human sense of vulnerability and flat-out outrage. It strikes and catalyzes every eye-for-an-eye beastial impulse we have, and in the end we are left just fucking pissed, emptied out, and feeling angry and helpless, and itching for some justice. I am in this space.
When I look in the eyes of the suspected terrorist leader, I don't see tenderness. What I see is the reflection of dead children, charred and twisted bodies, countless shattered lives all wrapped in a smug hypermasculine abstraction of god-sanctioned righteousness. In those eyes I don't see humanness at all. I see any means to a righteous end. I see someone who runs and hides. I see someone who comes out of shadows at night and kills people.
Sorry to those who disagree, but I though it worth throwing out a slightly less compassionate point of view. So, Dave
thanks for speaking your truth.
Paul
