Paul, thank you for bringing that movement into our chorus here. for me the Down of this event is most perfectly expressed by another friend who said to me today, "people in the poorest places in the world have been suffering, by the thousands, premature and agonizing deaths for decades. Shouldn't we be weeping all day every day in sorrow for these until all this is healed? It is because this has now been felt by the most materially privileged people in the world that there is now such hand-wringing!" I do acknowledge that anger is indeed a real gut appropriate reaction to all this and at the same time i know that this anger is very easy to misplace, and in fact i have felt deeply deeply angry for years that our privilege is and has been so numb to the same kind of horrid, unjust, brutal, rapacious, vicious attacks upon those who are not REAL to us because we are so insulated from their lives! Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world, most of its people are suffering lives that neither you nor i could begin to understand. they are in my Heart too! And to bomb that country because it harbors bin Laden would be to spread this evil. bin Laden himself is a multimillionaire Saudi with whom the U.S. at one time had relations in order to receive his help in keeping the Russians out of Afghanistan. His money comes from guess where? Our very culture's demand for oil from the Middle East. i do not in any way condone or attempt to justify attacks such as bin Laden creates, and he probably ought to be surgically removed from this world. but will you have us go into anger that attacks Americans of the Islamic faith and of Middle Eastern origin? This is where this unexamined anger is leading too many already. You want down and dirty? i am FUCKING OUTRAGED and have been for years that there is no fucking way to live here without standing on the backs of the impoverished. I hate it that apparently the only way we can even begin to have a global understanding in this nation is as a result of such a disaster, but if it doesn't even yield that, those lives will truly go unredeemed. Do you really want to increase this kind of seperation by making our very real anger into a standard and a beacon? is it conceivable that we can feel it and also have the Consciousness to look for the underlying causes that generate such horror in the world? Are you calling for revenge? At MY fleshiest level, I HURT for all of us in this and I especially hurt for those who have been, and continue to be, unseen, unheard, and unmourned, and it is for THEM that i have to speak now.

We do need to go here together, and i mean it when i thank you, and I am sorry if i have misunderstood. I do think that what i am trying to say is easy to take as an apology for terrorism and that is not it at all. it is just that my anger insists upon looking under and behind this recent event, i cannot bear our insularity now. Kyla
