I haven't been on this forum for sometime and it may be a long time before i'm on it again, but I have been touched very deeply by everyone's contributions and how each is deeling with the pain of the tragedy in New York. Even our relationship to our country has been brought into the examining room to be poked and proded. The events in New York and Wounded Knee and the pig and chicken farms paint a very dark picture of us as Human Beings. I am not divorced from these events and I feel a great shame that I must admit being a member of such a species. Jerry Fallwell and Pat Robertson have made statements that "the pagans have angerd God and he has withdrawn his protection from our country. The ACLU, gays, lesbians, abortionists and the supreme court have caused God to turn away from us". This is another tragedy, that any person could think that way and make public statements to that effect. I guess I have gone into mourning for our species. It is in a very primative condition and I feel a great sadness that people cannot feel the wonder of loving and enjoy the miricle of who we are. We are capable of, and demostrate every moment, that we can love and feel compassion. But loving is a wounding and a painfull ordeal that many of us are not open to, even though we secretly long to, and so I continue to mourn. I have long known that our government was commiting the very atrocities it condems so easily in other goverments. This to me is a sign that we are, all of us, only human and as Mark Twain observed, "you can't get no worse than that".
