Ellen,
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am so grateful to hear words of truth. They help me to have a fuller understanding of these seemingly senseless acts. I have a deeper feeling of the karmic chain that has led to our present state of affairs, and a deeper sense of tragedy and loss. Somehow, all along, I have had a sense that we are all responsible for this, on a very personal level. I just could never articulate it. Now I understand why.
I think it is so ironic that the son (George W.) really is paying for the sins of the father (George the Elder). As are we all! After all, we elected them. I didn't vote for them, but I am as responsible as the Republican National Chairman.
It appears to me that our national tragedies always seem to have a "secret history". The "secret history" of Viet Nam was the Vietnamese people's unquenchable fire for freedom spanning 3 generations. As a nation, we were ignorant of that and paid dearly.
Here again the "secret history" is presented in clear, precise detail. Again, as a nation we are paying for our ignorance.
Benazir Bhutto-- and her compatriots--have lived with the consequences of our choices of policicies and political leaders. What a powerful witness!-- someone intimately involved with these world events speaks, rather than pontifications from media commentators and political spin doctors.
This speech should be broadcast on all three major networks every night. Media pontification and clucking of tongues is BULLSHIT. I am so sick of the media feeding on our very real fear and pain. While Saniel recommends staying with the media reports, I also feel they have the potential to hypnotize us if we allow it, creating more polarization of "us" and "them".
For me, every morning I honor the lives and the passing of those who died in the attacks. Who really knows if these deaths are senseless or not? Who Knows? In my confusion and anger and sorrow, I often can't tell what makes sense and what doesn't.
