Wow, Carrie, what a beautiful story. And it's so beautiful how clearly you speak about the depth of it, and how it reverberated for you into past and future. I think you are totally right on how much it matters WHO is doing this kind of body work. Bodies touching are always more than touching, they are interpenetrating. i had to stop going to a particular massage therapist not too long ago because although she was very very well trained and good at what she did, and was willing to barter with me, i found that her own unresolved depressive and bitter feelings were, willy-nilly, entering my body from her touch. This in spite of the fact that she was extremely professional and there was no outward sign of what was going on with her. At one point she made a fairly casual remark about having a tendency toward depression, and i thought, "bingo! That's why i feel so bad after she works on me!" I did know enough about my own depressive tendencies at that time to have realized that SOMETHING unexplained was going on, and i was tentatively accepting the explanation that it was a detox reaction i was having. but as soon as she made that remark, i just knew with certainty that it was not detox i was dealing with! And when we receive body work, we are so open.
