Together-seperatness. What a paradox. It is no wonder we can feel so confused about it. Like a Zen koan it defies a conventional answer. I had a conversation with Fred Tayler at the Human Sun Seminar in Boulder CO last September. Saniel had just confirmed his second birh and Fred was in a very good mood. He said to me, "the reason I know we are really one, eventhough we appear seperate, is because I can feel everyone in the room. I feel their pain as if it were my own". I realized how correct he was. I had always known that but had never spoken it. His words really brouhgt to my conscious awareness. Of course we feel everyone's joy also. It seems that what this requires of us, is the courage to feel what feels like our own pain, and when we can do that then we can begin to notice the pain of the "other".
Then with love and compassion we can regonize them as US. Everyone is seen no different from me, or the I that longs for love and is afraid to feel the pain of it. The greatest gift I have ever recieved from doing this White Hot Work is to have increased my capacity to feel the Great Love I have for everyone. It is difficult because it so heartbreaking, but it is a Wonder that I charish and it sustains me while feeling my own pain. I think this realization is Mutality, or at least a big chunk of it. We are truly doing this together, we are not seperate bodies running around in our isolated agony, We are this wonder of Mutual Existance in Being. It breaks my heart, and I weep when I contemplate our magnificence and it also lifts me into blissfull love. What a Wonderful Mystery The Mystery Is.
