Gill,

Thanks for the discrimination between these "types" and the general religious notions we've all been brought up with. I'd like to suggest that in our own little group, I find a tendency to latch onto certain key phrases and buzzwords. That jargon is then thrown around to the point of becoming meaningless, but others eat it up as if some morsel of personal wisdom. Do people use this jargon because it expresses something true of them, or is it that there is some inward or outward desire to fulfill a preconceived image, as those deeply-imprinted notions of spirituality you mention?

And, as you say, this becomes part of the work. We impose these images and notions on others and ourselves. And, as Kate implies, by doing so we embrace a different set of limitations. This has been my experience- breaking free, to some degree, of a certain image or notion only to be confronted by a more "refined" or subtle one. On it goes.

(And nice to be remembered by you, Gill.)
