P.C.??? Let just be correct shall we? The designation of Dec. 25 Christmas reflects cultural traditions non-christian traditions.
It occurred near the time of the Saturnalia - the Roman feast honoring the god Saturn.
Church officials often took pagan customs and infused them with Christian meanings to facilitate the conversion of pagans to Christianity.
It was also close to the winter solstice - after which days begin to lengthen.
Mithraism, a pagan sun cult, celebrated "the birth of the unconquered sun" around this date.
In fact Most Christians have celebrated Jesus' birth on Dec. 25 for more than 1,700 years. But that doesn't mean he was born on that date.
In fact, a lack of Scriptural and historical evidence for that date has led some Christians to not celebrate Christ's birth at all. If anyone should be offended by the word Christmas it I and my fellow pagans for the past Christians ripped this holiday from us and adopted for their own. It should be widely changed as Halloween should be changed back to Samhain. Talk about political correctness thats the least of worries.
