Another couple of points on Lavey.

Although he was basically a showman, I do believe he was very much possessed by evil spirits and operated in the dark supernatural. As such, this would show in a persons face, certainly after many years of such negative contacts.

Although Lavey said he didn't believe in a literal Satan, I have heard a number of ex-members say that, in secret, he did believe in a literal Satan.

Some people also think that the Church of Satan is a front for the real thing which is hidden underground. Many start with Lavey then crave more. I believe the bridges are there, even in Lavey's church, for them to get more deeply involved.

The Satanic Bible (I have a copy!) is basically a novelty item for rebellious teens to shock their parents with. However, it is amazing how many loner Satanic teen killers are found with a copy of this book in their possession.
