Subject: I'm Still Not Sleeping

Where does one's mind fly while awake?
Mine wings its way to everywhere.
Anywhere I wish though sometimes uninvited;
Gone to places that amaze me yet still depress me.

I've walked upon stones disappearing with first step,
So where does this brain take me if not beyond skull?
False impressions hiding forever from themselves;
Cruel intentions that never touched me when a baby.

Now those dreams call to me to close my eyes,
They lay me down to sleep with no promises.
I fight that next day that won't talk to me;
So where does the fear lie when it's unknown?

I do not feel that safe living within this realm,
Afraid to drift off into unprotected territory.
My life shines back at me through a well-lit mirror;
Will it all end when these eyelids close this time?
