Subject: Door To My Life

It opened one beautiful March morning,
Swaddled in love from that very moment.
To be a son of such a man and woman blessed me,
They were truly the best any baby could hope for.

Giving me keys to life without locking out my innocence,
A perfect balance of good swinging on hinges of compassion.
Still I had to walk into that room of my future and face it,
Sometimes there were unsurpassable walls without openings .

At least that is how it seemed to me during those times,
Then I realized there were windows to escape through.
Looking into many forever horizons calling to me,
Sunsets each evening always willing to say good night.

I had knocked on that birth door so many years ago,
Little did I know I would grow beyond innocence granted me.
A small soldier that was now large enough to bravely die,
Here now to finally close that door to his brief mortality.
