Subject: Second Generation - Part #16

PART #16

Peter Dunkirk was feeling a sense of frustration when he picked up the morning paper, and read the caption regarding the stabbing of a local businessman in the parking lot of the Country Club. He couldn’t believe his bad luck. He was sure he had killed the son of Bowregard La Faye. Hollingsworth had said to make it look like an armed robbery. He was actually attempting to get into the back seat of Boudreau’s car to hide when Boudreau came out of the Country Club. It had been arranged that Hollingsworth would pick up his daughter from the Country Club, and she would be told there was an emergency at home with her mother. That would leave Boudreau alone. It would have been quite dark by the time he went out to his car, and Peter was going to let him get settled in the seat. Then he was going to jump up, and slit his throat with a knife. It wouldn’t do to use a gun, and make a noise that could be heard. Hollingsworth had told him it had to be quick and silent.

Peter had been told that Hollingsworth was the man to see if you needed cash or something done for you. Peter needed some money to help him carry out his plan for taking over the Le Bleu plantation. When he told Hollingsworth how much money he wanted, Hollingsworth had looked at him and said, “If you want that kind of money from me, you are going to owe me a tremendous favor.”

Peter had asked, “What is the favor you want from me?” Hollingsworth had laughed cruelly; then lowering his voice, he said, “I want you to eliminate a certain young man for me. His name is Boudreau La Faye.” It didn’t take long for Peter to see that he was dealing with an evil man. Peter had been around that type of man before; and it didn’t bother him all that much. Peter had always managed to stay on the good side of this sort of man. Hollingsworth said, “My daughter is really stuck on this guy, and I don’t want her anywhere near him. She will not listen to reason, so he will have to go.”

Peter could have jumped for joy. He had been looking for something that would shake up the La Faye household. How could he have been so fortunate for things to start falling into place? It would give him great pleasure to give that family some suffering after what he had been through all these years.

While Peter was thinking about the whole situation, it struck him that the phone in his hotel room was ringing. He got up to answer the phone, and he heard a voice saying, “Dunkirk, get over here; we need to talk.” Peter recognized the voice to be Hollingsworth Deverall. Peter said, “I will meet you shortly. Where do you want to meet? Hollingsworth said, “I want to meet you at a garage at the edge of Lake Charles. The garage is called “Right Price Auto Repair.” He gave Peter directions, and Peter told him he would see him in twenty minutes.

When Peter arrived at the garage, he saw that Hollingsworth was already there. He was smoking a huge smelly cigar, and pacing back and forth like a caged animal. Again, Peter was struck with the thought, “It would not be wise to cross this man in any way.” “Get in my car,” barked Hollingsworth. Peter stepped into the car, and sat down by Hollingsworth. He said, “Peter, you were supposed to eliminate Boudreau La Faye. What happened?” Peter said, “I really thought I had eliminated the man.”

Hollingsworth said, “Look my daughter keeps running over to the hospital to see him. You would swear she is planning on marrying this guy. You’re going to have to come up with something better the next time. You have to come up with a fool proof plan for his demise.”

A smirk crossed the face of Peter Dunkirk. He said, “Don’t you worry yourself, I’ll get him the next time.” Hollingsworth said, “If you take care of this for me, I will gladly turn over the money you want, and even a bonus.” Peter said, “You can count on me; it will be done.”

Hollingsworth left to return to his office; and Peter drove back to his hotel. He had to make sure this time he did not slip up in any way. He sat in his room reflecting on the best way to eliminate Boudreau. He finally made a decision, and knew what he was going to do. When Boudreau got so he was able to drive to work, there would be a disaster with his car. That should take care of the problem for Hollingsworth.

The completed job would give him the money he needed to hire individuals to sabotage the saw mill that was a main provider of income for the Le Bleu plantation. Hollingsworth didn’t need to know that he had actually given Peter the key to that family. He had several other things in mind he would do, but one had to plan carefully. There could be no more mistakes.

To be continued...
