After two cases where negligent owners allowed their pit-bull type dogs to attack people (one resulted in a fatality, the dogs were runnign at large) the Spotsylvania County Board is
deciding on what action to take. I found out about the meeting they were having last night where certain types of dogs may be asked to be banned according to a Washington Post blurb. Note, VA law states that a dog cannot be deemed dangerous based on breed or type alone. I have been trying to find the blurb in yesterday's paper on line but have not been successful. the Post has altered their site since I last accessed it and the new layout is
the pits.

I have already sent letters and a packet of information to the county board outlining why dogs go bad and how it is not the breed or type but the owner that determines how safe or dangerous the dog will be. However, I have received no response.

I am alerting the UKC and AKC to this as I fear the worst is about to happen after the meeting.

Please all dog owners contact the board and voice your opinion.

Following is a link to the Spotsie county board of supervisors.

Sincerely,

Karen Peak
