Allow me to clear up my stance a little. I do not believe in war. I do not believe that the US needs to have its nose in everybodies business across the world. And I, personnally, could not pick up a gun a shoot somebody in the name of the United States of America. Call me simple, shallow or whatever, but I believe in god, family, treating all people with the love an respect they deserve, and doing what is right for the future of our species (probably in that order). I do not believe in war, violence, nationalism, or ralling the troops to defeat the "evil doers." And I certainly do not believe in the sincerity of the motto we portray to the world, "In God we Trust." We put it on our money for christ's sake.

If the United States treated other countries and their citizens with the same respect and compassion that it shows its own citizens then my view points might be different. I don't believe the United States is involved in any conflict anywhere where it's intrests are not its number one priority, and where the occupied country and its citizens are used (often times under the false pretense of being saved from some horrible demise-genocide, communism, AIDS)to promote the position the United States in that region of the world. If being drafted today were as simple as being drafted during WWII then I would willing go. There was a global threat to peace and stability during WWII that the US did not start. People were drafted to fight against that. Today, we are as much a global threat to peace and stability as any other nation, including China, North Korea, Sudan, and Iran. I could not fight a war where the cause was not pure or just. I could not be made to fight in a war that tries to justify our position as a bully.
It is not a mystery why the United States is hated around the world. We go places where we don't belong.

AS for the draft. I would not want to see any person I know get drafted for war. I would hope that no person I know would be drafted. I do not believe that the draft should be selective based on race, religion, econominc status, social status, or gender. I agree with your statement of why should the poor black guy go fight for the rich, powerful white guy. But look at it as it is. If we are drafted, then we are all going to fight for the rich powerful white guy. (If he has more dollar bills in his wallet, then does that mean he trusts in God more and we should fight for his cause - the cause of the United States of America?)

However, the draft should be selective on where people could be serve and time frame they have to honor their draft notice. If people cannot have an opt-out of the draft, then people should be able to delay their draft for specific reasons. And I believe education is a viable reason. I also believe that having a new family with small children would be a good reason to delay a persons draft.

In response to another comment you made. I do not believe that you should get drafted before me. I do not believe that I am any more special than any other citizen of this country, so please do not lump me into that category or take offense that I might be targeting you in anyway. YOur draft stance just pissed me off a little bit.

If the draft is going to truly be a lottery then women between the ages of 18-26 need to register for the draft at their local DMV. Better yet, any girl who never showed me her boobs should fight along side me with her shirt off!!!!

I am rambling. I will collect my thoughts and post again.
