The first thing I want to say is that Israel's present state not only has nothing to do with the Holocaust, but that if it did have to do with the holocaust than why is Israel on the fast-track to ethnic-cleansing of their own?

Israel's creation had started and was a tense, violent political issue long before Nazi atrocities.

You're correct about the psychology of the Iraqi resistance. My point is that we are fools to believe that we could simply walk into the country, take over, and be embraced by the people. A lot of Iraqis had a loyalty to Iraq, to Saddam Hussein, or simply living without a large Western military presence.

The thing about interest rates is that interest rates tend be higher in a less predicatble and stable economy. It makes sense too - if you are loaning money for a long period of time (such as with mortgages, or the new longer-term auto loans) you want to be sure that the interest rate will not only cover inflation, but also ensure a profit. The US economy as it stands depends extremely heavily on hige government spending, and also on the 'cooperation' of gloabal trading partners. Given fewer military and political missions their would be less money flowing to a single source (government), and worse there would be far less US-sponsored (coerced) trade agreements. It's not the most solid economic theory on the planet, sure, but it's not hard to see it happening.
