Hey Julian! Is this the Daily Peloton Juian? If so, welcome aboard! If not, welcome aboard! Don't take anything we say here too seriously - just having some fun debate! Join us, yell at us, call us names and then smile - it's all good! Anyway . . .

It is important to know what information was out there. But it's also important to hold it in context. We have been constantly aware of a plane hijacking threat since the 1950's. Nothing has changed in regards to the amount of chatter (it was described by one terrorism expert recently as being like a sine wave in it's rise and fall with no exception in the last few years). To expect anybody to filter through this and make good sense out of it, picking out one plausible threat amongst hundreds or even thousands of bogus ones is ridiculous at best.

What people want is to pin blame on a particular person or group and I don't think this is possible. You have the Bush administration getting their information from the verious intelligence agencies who get their information from other intelligence agencies who get their information from god knows where . . . it all gets jumbled together into a big unreliable mixing pot and does not provide us the crystal ball we wish that it would. Intelligence post-cold war has many failings since it has not been properly restructured to account for major changes in the way we need to gather and interpret data. This is not the fault of the current, or past administrations, necessarily, but the fault of the Intelligence groups themselves who are often largely independent in such actions (for obvious reasons - who in their right mind would want Bush calling the shots for the CIA????)

I'm out - time to re-check the progress of Paris-Roubaix.
