From his position in the darkness he sat close enough to the torn back roof to gaze out at the stars. It was a clear night, thin wisps of clouds dotted the stars occasionally making them appear to sparkle a little more than they did on their own. Zeth's gray eyes had drifted out the makeshift window and had been watching the yellow of the sky turn to purples, blues, and blacks.

But at the sound of the whimpering female, his attention turned inward. He could tell she was hurting but whether from physical pain or emotional he couldn't tell. He wanted to call out to her for comfort but that seemed to be the last thing she wanted. So instead he let his book of matches tumble out of his hands and collide with the floor. Maybe the noise would spark a reaction from the sobbing female.:.
