Sparks skipping across its midnight feathers, the raven bounced across the ledge of the crate with its onyx shards parted, as if mocking him. Once its puppeteer severed its strings, the creature crumbled into a tiny pile of ash.

‘Why don’t you come up here, pet?’

Bare toes moved across the beam as the figure effortlessly balanced.
