In reply to: KSMoTO 's message, "here you go....th Islamic laws for eating meat and such...." on 15:15:58 04/23/03 Wed

dude, did you get that off a monty python website?

'...animals without external ears ...'??

are you telling me lobsters have external ears?
what kind of wacky ass god do you worship, anyway?

what about locusts and all that other stuff you dudes eat?

HAGBARD!!
are chickens hiding external ears under their feathers?

> 'Halal' is the word that describes that which is
>lawful in Islamic terms. By this, halal extends beyond
>the bounds of food consumption, to prescribe all
>necessary intake for a devout, 'healthy' Muslim.

got it.

>'Haram', on the other hand, details that which is
>forbidden according to the laws of Islam. This concept
>also extends beyond food, serving as a list of
>prohibitions for the Muslim seeking guidance as to
>what is required by their faith.

got it.

>The Qur'an states: 'O ye who believe! Eat of the good
>things wherewith We have provided you, and render
>thanks to Allah if it is He whom ye worship' (2:172).

who is this 'We'??
do you have many gods, or do you feel this supports the popular belief that aliens built your pyramids?

>Thus all Muslims are required to praise their God on a
>daily basis for the food which they have been provided
>with, the halal, as ordained by Allah.

got it.

>The Qura'n specifies that meat be allowed for the
>Muslim people, contrary to popular belief. The Qur'an
>does not encourage the consumption of meat products
>and only a particular type of meat is permitted: 'The
>beast of cattle is made lawful unto you...
> except that which is announced unto you,
>game being unlawful when
>ye are on pilgrimage' (5:1).

got it.

>All carnivorous animals, birds of prey, and animals
>without external ears are considered haram.

hehehe...you're killin' me.
is it time to swap our theories about this, yet?
by the way, have you considered the possibilty that your god might be a muppet?

>Prohibitions encompass any animal that has been
>slaughtered for any purpose other than to honour the
>name of Allah, for example meaningless hunting.

if you eat the meat from 'meaningless hunting' then aren't you giving it meaning?
if you don't eat the meat, then there isn't much of an issue, is there?

>The Qur'an stipulates that the meat of a pig is
>especially haram: 'Forbidden unto you are carrion and
>blood and swine-flesh … and the strangled and the dead
>through beating, and the dead through falling from a
>height' (5:3). Therefore, Muslims refrain completely
>from eating pork and its by-products. Additionally,
>Muslims do not eat blood, for example raw meat, or
>those products made from the blood of animals.
>Islamic tradition sets forth specific rituals and
>methods of slaughter that must be strictly adhered to
>in order for the particular animal to be considered
>halal. In the Hadith, a primary Islamic text, it
>states: 'Thus, if you kill, kill well; and if you
>slaughter, slaughter well. Let each one of you sharpen
>his blade and let him spare suffering to the animal he
>slaughters' (Bukhari).
>All slaughtering of animals must be done in such a way
>that the pain and distress of the animal is made
>minimal. Any animal that has not been properly
>slaughtered is considered haram. This includes an
>animal that is found dead before slaughter has taken
>place.

got it.

>Thus, if animals have been subjected to cruelty
>in their upbringing, transport, or breeding process,
>they are considered impure by Islamic standards.

that doesn't follow at all.
it just comments on the killing and slaughtering process.
farmer tone might've been molesting that big eared cattle it's whole life, but he leaves the slaughtering up to saddam the butcher, who's cool as long as he doesn't strangle it, or push it off his roof to make it look like suicide.

>All by-products of such production methods are
>considered haram, and are prohibited under Islamic
>rule, for example certain pig blood cosmetics, pig blood cleaning agents,
>personal care products, pig blood food ingredients, and pig blood. Any food
>that has been contaminated with either blood, swine,
>or other various haram food types must be discarded, but not from a great height.
