Subject: Ok, both of you, this is getting stupid

We're back where was started, noneof us listening to the other side and basic name-calling.

Let's make it simple, shan't we? You, Tone, think it's sick when I trivialise American deaths because I personally find the Iraqy lives just as important. In the same line, I think it's sick that you people give yourself the right to decide on whether or not a person should life, whatever the circumstances.

Now, what you don't seem to get is that this is purely cultural. I choose, from my culture's point of view, to lay down my right to defend myself effectively become a doormat in order to save lives.

Now, we Dutchies have free weed laws, however, while we consider this a great and appreciated freedom, we have the good sense not to go around saying everyone should have free weed laws, because we know that won't work everywhere (this is directed purely to Gwydion). In the same way, I know, because I know the European culture and understand it up to a level that an American never could (the same way that a European could never fully understand the American culture, unless, of course, either integrates in the other's culture) and know, from that point, that most Europeans simply prefer penance over freedom in this case; we prefer to live defenseless over...well...gun deaths.

Now, it's become clear to me, in spite of my flagrant stupidity (shut up Dammitboy!), that I had a misunderstanding of gun laws, up to a certain level. You Americans need your gun laws, the only way to abolish them is to change your culture, and you're not going to do that, nor should you, it's your good right to choose how you live, you have chosen.

What I'm asking you, especially Gwydion, to accept is that we Europeans chose a different lifestyle that's at least as valid as yours, and gun laws wouldn't work or would be unwanted in our lifestyle.

I have a lot to think about concerning this issue, and if I ever go to study Sociology (one of my likelier choices), I'll probably make international gun laws my major subject. If I do that, I might be more qualified to make important statement about the way gun laws work in the US, for now, can't we just agree on the fact that while gun laws are whoopdidoo for you, it'd be boo-hiss for us?
