People say "inbred" and automatically think of American hicks saying "yuck-yuck-yuck" or handicapped people.

It's not as bad as all that, if I remember correctly, Tolkien was actually not far from the truth with "Elves frowned upon anyone marrying a cousin that was not at least twice removed"

Remember, we all come from the same gene pool anyway, and Europe (and thus non-native Americans) even has only 7 "birth-mothers" (it's been checked through a part of the cell that has unmodified DNA through all time, the mitochondrium, I think).

Frowning upon incest is just something that the Western world decided on, maybe because of Christianity. In fact, probably because of Christianity, because the Romans and Greek didn't mind it any more than they did homosexuality.

Remember, only procreating has any effect on the gene pool, the Western society ALSO frowns upon sex, not only having children. This is purely cultural and has no logical reason behind it.
