Same here. Also, while I was in Saudi, it was explained to us that it is an insult to show the bottom of your feet to someone (i.e. leaning back with your feet perpendicular to the ground). Something about saying that the person is beneath you, or you trod upon them... Can't remember exactly.

A lot of people were taking their shoes off and smacking pictures/statues of Saddam with their shoes.
