A professional soldier prepares for war, but prays for peace. Only an eight-ball wants a war. I don't want a guy on my six who is hoping for a firefight. Even worse, I don't want anybody near me who is ready to 'die for his country', I prefer helping the enemy do that.

That's not to say that 'action' isn't a balls on, wide open rush. It is, but the potential of stopping a bullet or watching your partner catch a bullet takes all the fun right out of it.

I'm proud of my service and performance - But no more proud than I am of my training and preparation. It's kind of a zen thing.
