Subject: Pay Back Time

I see I'm getting some stick to put it mildly. First, lets note that the whole thing started with correspondence concerning a minor incident at half time when Lewes were our guests. I have no regrets about what happened and have no more to say on that matter except that I wish Lewes Fotball Club every success.

Then we have Bullshit Bob having a go under his two pseudonyms. Bob, even by your standards you have plummetted the depths. Your puerile insults are water off a duckling's back but please leave my mother out of your jests. May God bless her, she is soon to be 89 and I would ask you to concentrate your low humour on me and leave her out of it if you would be so kind. Oh, and by the way, whatever you do, don't go back on your stated intention never to set foot here again. If you do, you'll find you're barred anyway.

And now to Mr. Frank Speaker. How nice of you to say that I have a heart of gold. Don't count on it mate. We'll forget about the drinking bit because that's part of the culture (as it is indeed at Whyteleafe, Mr Farmie) but what really amused me was the assertion that that I am old school and part of the "kickabout club" days.

What the f*cking hell do you know about all the work that went in to developing the ground so that we could achieve Ryman status? I was one of many (including Bullshit Bob to be fair) who worked themselves into the ground to get us there because we all wanted the best possible status for the club. You are one of the generation that has inherited the fruits of all our hard work, so, to put it mildly, please show me and all the others concerned, some respect.

And now I'm going to tell you something Mr. Frank Speaker and all of your like minded mates. Junior section managers and their great ideas? Well, I haven't heard of any, but first let them achieve what I achieved. Did you know that:

1. I am the only manager ever to take Croydon Schools F.A. to the final of the English Schools' Trophy? (v Bristol 1979). Yes ? No?
2. I am the only manager to have won the Southern Youth League title for Croydon Athletic? ( at the first attempt 1993). Yes? No?
3. I took Croydon Athletic to the 2nd round proper of the F.A. Youth Cup v Ipswich Town at Portman Road in 1996? Yes? No?

Shall I go on? I could, very easily. Those are but a few of my kickabout achievements. You want me to quit? Fine. Nominate a junior manager with great ideas to take my place and I'll go, on condition that I am reimbursed some of the thousands of pounds that I have directly donated to the club. Keith can delve into the accounts and give him a figure.

I'll let him off the cost of the original turnstiles which I paid for one hundred per cent, oh, and also the cost of sponsoring the youth team one hundred per cent for one season (not fifty per cent like someone else which has cost the club money).

Fair enough? Nominate the man you want but do let him know that "great ideas" cost money which he will have to cough up just as I did. But then of course I'm old school meaning that I belong to the generation who believe in putting their money where their mouth is and passionately wanted to further the progress of the club. In that sense I do have a heart of gold but I'm thinking of replacing it with one of steel.

I'm soon to be 57 and yes, I like a drink. Want rid of me? I'm open to offers.
