In situations like this, one hopes that everything was on the up and up. For one thing, the judges should have had no knowledge prior that the winner was that closely related to Joya, judging Lily on her own merits and not the connections she had to the director. And I think I would have been very reluctant to reveal that information in the news article following her crowning. You always want to avoid any speculation of impropriety, so if this young girl (not even graduated from high school) was determined to run for the title of Miss Kenosha, Joya should have completely removed herself from the Miss Kenosha board. Which once again brings up the question of what happened to Laura. She made such a big deal about saving the pageant (that gave her so much) but seems to have resigned that idea after only being in charge for one year. She is no longer on the MAO Board of Directors, so she can't use that as an excuse as to why she can't be the local director of this pageant. The other option would have been for this girl to wait a few years down the road to compete after Joya had finally retired from her position (it isn't like this was her one and only chance to be Miss Kenosha). And in the long run, one would think that would have been a better option for her -- having a couple of years of college under her belt, gained a little more maturity, and had a better shot of becoming Miss Wisconsin. I sincerely hope that her talent was simply amazing and her interview off the charts, because she wasn't chosen from a field of four contestants that the committee scrambled to get together at the last minute so they could have a pageant. But once again, it all boils down to making sure there is no hint of impropriety, and by doing so you avoid any questionable situations such as this.

  • Today maybe Valentines Day but not showing Joya any love for her foolish and unethical nepotism -- and also bragging that she and Lily got to be Miss Kenosha, 10:05:28 02/14/19 Thu
  • Who was the state field director? Joya's pal Jeannie? Both should have known better. -- Its bad enough with national MAO problems to have this go on, 13:50:13 02/14/19 Thu
